Sunderland is joining cities across the UK to promote a scheme which ensures that you can enjoy a great night out in a trouble free atmosphere! Licensed premises can take part in the Best Bar None scheme, which rewards high standards is bars, pubs and clubs across Sunderland.

The scheme is a joint partnership between Safer Sunderland, Northumbria Police, Sunderland City Council and Sunderland City Centre Management to ensure a night out in the city's main watering holes is safe and enjoyable.

The scheme allows the people who run pubs, clubs and bars to demonstrate how well they do their job – highlighting the policies they have in place to deal with a whole range of potential problems. It will ensure that those who show they work responsibly for the safety of their customers are recognised and rewarded.

The Best Bar None scheme will help:
  • Reduce alcohol related crime and disorder.
  • Build a positive relationship between the licensed trade, the public and the police.
  • Reduce binge drinking.
  • Improve standards within the licensed retail sector.
  • Raise the profile of Sunderland as a safe place to enjoy a night out.
  • Protect children and young people from harm.
  • Improve the skills of licensees and bar staff in order to deal with issues relating to the responsible management of licensed premises.
